Ms. Laneice Brooker, the new Chief of Cultural Affairs at the US Embassy in Ghana, and her group paid a visit to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at the Council Chamber.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, and some members of the University Management welcomed Ms. Laneice, who was accompanied by Ms. Diane Young and Mr. Lewis Cardenas, the United States (US) Embassy's Regional Educational Coordinators for West and Central Africa and South Asia, as well as Jennifer Green, Cultural Affairs Associate.
Ms. Brooker, speaking on behalf of the group, stated that the visit was part of their tour of the Ashanti Region to encourage students to pursue graduate programmes in the United States and to discuss ways to expand US universities’ ties with KNUST.
She stated, "Ghana is the 24th country in the world, and the second on the African continent, with more graduate students in the United States," a feat she described as "amazing." According to her, four thousand two hundred (4,200) Ghanaian students are enrolled in postgraduate programs at various universities in the US. She went on to say that her organization would take advantage of the opportunity to educate KNUST students on the American educational system and the application procedure.
KNUST, according to Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, is a leading Science and Technology Institution in Ghana, focusing on high-quality teaching and learning, cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship training, and community engagement. She stated that KNUST has been entrusted with the education of around 81,000 students to prepare them holistically for Africa and globally. These, she explained, are impossible to achieve without strategic collaboration with organisations like theirs.
She praised the KNUST-US partnership's ongoing support and sustainability, which has resulted in enhancing the career path of several faculty members. She promised that Management would keep in touch with them for their mutual advantage.
